Service Description
The Doula School and The Cincinnati Birth Center are hosting a weekend of learning and connection in Cincinnati for doulas, student midwives, birth assistants, and anyone exploring birth work. This retreat provides two distinct options: CAPPA Labor Doula training (for those wanting to become a doula) and Cincinnati Birth Center midwife assistant training (for those wanting to pursue birth assistant certification with AABC.). You may register for one or both trainings. *Current doula certification from state-approved doula certification program is a prerequisite for the midwife assistant training. **No prerequisites for attending the doula training. **Doula Training: Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4 8:30a-6:30p both days. Certificate of completion from CAPPA awarded at the end. *Midwife Assistant Training: Sunday, November 5th 8:30a-6:30p This will be an opportunity for birth workers to have their first experience with labor support and midwifery in a sacred space with an educational foundation with respect for autonomy, intuition, and normal, physiologic birth. Breakfast and snacks will be provided- lunch and evening meals are the responsibility of participants. There will be a refrigerator available to use so feel free to bring food and snacks for yourself for both days. Dietary considerations will be asked to meet all participants' needs. There will be an optional breakfast on the morning of Monday, November 6th. This will be a brief time to hold space, share stories and ask questions as well as say our goodbyes. You can also choose to say goodbye Sunday evening. No additional cost for this option but a donation to the Safer Birth Foundation is suggested. Lodging is not included in the retreat fee and is the responsibility of the participant to arrange. There will be planned evening activities including sacred stories shared, journaling, team building strategies and an opportunity to foster relationships between birth workers. 18 Nursing CEUs are available for the CAPPA doula training. This retreat will be entry level and start with the foundations of autonomy, scope of practice for doulas and for birth assistants, traditional doula/birth assistant skills, DEI and working on citizen autonomy and team building skills. NRP is tentatively planned to be offered at the Cincinnati Birth Center at another date and time depending on availability of the facilitator/hosts. This will be finalized soon with cost, date and instructor.
